I've personally have been trying to create a change within the African Nova Scotia community for a long time! I started this by sending emails to Sunday Miller when she was the executive director of the Africville Heritage Trust at least 4 years ago, and from then I've never stopped pushing for the community, it was never and isn't personal with me, it's not about me, this is for the community! I've been pushing as hard as I possibility can, but I am only one person, and this was always a together mission to me! I just want the African Nova Scotia community represented how I know WE can be represented in the community, how we SHOULD represent the community with our best foot forward as a community!
I've been to more annual board meetings, Africville Reunion meetings, went to churches spoke with pastors in the community, community meetings organizations put on, community center's, men's health meetings, spoke with multiple professors at Dal, spoke with O.G.'s in the hood, and reached out to and supported every single person in the community that I know has a mission, and this is where it brought me. So every single person that has been in those spaces know me, and what I've been trying to do for a long time! This is real for me, and not for the show of life!
It took me 5 years to get here, but I finally have someone in my corner! I want to thank Dr. David Divine for everything he told me, and it let me know what I am trying to do by bringing the people together is the right thing!
I also want to thank the Minister of African Nova Scotian Affairs, Tony Ince for the conversation we recently had, it was just another affirmation that we need to come together as ONE community to create a change!
I also want to thank everyone standing for change, it's TOGETHER though how we going to create the biggest change, not by ourselves! It's time for us to get organized in the most effective way!
A mission has to be bigger than the person in charge of the mission, or the purpose of the mission dies when the person does! If we pass the power on, and do it for the people, is how great organizations are born and thrive!
So here is the document I've been working on for what feels like forever, and sending to the community leaders and pushing the message of unity and togetherness the whole time, a long time! I realized through this whole process, it's the PEOPLE that are going to make the difference, and WE are those people, the power of the people is the real power!
Our communities and people in them are hurting, we need to help our people, and TOGETHER is the ONLY way! So hopefully we can come together to start changing the culture for our YOUTH.
I encourage you to read the report below, especially if you are part of the African Nova Scotia community in ANY capacity, but this is a message that needs to be heard by everyone in the Nova Scotia community, and beyond! We can't stay divided forever, it's time to come together for the sake of the community at large, it's time to change the culture for the future! I live for the children, this is for them! It's always love with me, and never personal! I personally want to see everyone success, and be the biggest best person they can be, I've been and love supporting EVERYONE in the community doing anything positive, I want to see you shine! If YOU shine, WE shine! It's about the biggest picture with me, the MACRO!
